Gardening with Ollie

One of the projects I've undertaken in our new house is a "square foot garden." The idea is that in a 4x4' grid (6x3' in this case) you can plant a succession of vegetables and have fresh produce all season long...we'll see how it goes.

Right now things are off to a pretty good start. I have spinach, broccoli rabe, cilantro, bell peppers, cantaloupe and cherry tomatoes that I started in peat pots a few weeks ago. The carrots and lettuce that I planted last week have yet to emerge. I already killed the basil seedlings I moved outside too early. I guess it got too cold one night and they bit the dust.

Oliver is also very interested in the garden, but he's more interested in pulling things out than planting.

Oliver is getting pretty good at standing up on his own. He's yet to take his first steps but he is getting more confident standing, so I think it shouldn't be too long before he's walking.

He has gotten really attached to a matchbox car that I think he stole from a friend's house. He takes it everywhere and zooms it along any flat surface he can find.
